🌿 Alocasia 'Melo' (Alocasia rugosa)
Alocasia Melo is a striking, hard-to-find jewel Alocasia known for its incredibly thick, textured foliage. Its rugged, bluish-green leaves resemble carved stone or dragon scales, making it a favorite among rare plant collectors. Compact and bold, this species brings a sculptural, almost prehistoric feel to any indoor plant display.

⚠️ Note on Natural Variation, Algae & Growing Conditions
Each plant is naturally unique. While exact leaf shape and tone may vary slightly, all plants are carefully selected to match the size, texture, and quality shown.
We ship in a Fluval and perlite mix, designed to encourage strong root growth and aeration. Harmless green algae may be present due to high humidity and light exposure - this is completely natural and does not affect plant health.
🌡️ These plants have been grown in stable, controlled conditions of 70-75% humidity and 70-75°F. To avoid stress, they should be slowly acclimated to typical household environments over several days to a week.
🛠️ Care Instructions
Light:
Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can burn the foliage.
Water:
If continuing to grow in Fluval and perlite, keep the plant in a self-watering container or set above a shallow nutrient-enriched water reservoir to allow for bottom wicking. This method keeps the substrate evenly moist and supplies gentle nutrition.
Humidity:
High humidity (60%+) is preferred. If transitioning to standard home conditions, reduce humidity gradually using a dome, tent, or small humidifier.
Temperature:
Maintain between 70-75°F. Protect from temperature swings and drafts.
Soil (if repotting):
When transitioning out of the current medium, use a chunky, well-draining aroid or semi-terrestrial Alocasia mix. A blend of coco coir, orchid bark, and perlite is ideal.
Fertilizer:
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer at ¼-½ strength monthly during the active growing season.
Dormancy Note:
Growth may slow or pause during cooler months. Reduce watering and stop fertilizing until new growth resumes.
